Surgical Evaluation

Vagal Nerve Stimulator

A patient with seizures who does not respond to conventional medical therapy is appropriate for referral to the CCEC for consideration of alternative treatments. In cases where the diagnosis of epilepsy is uncertain, patients may be admitted for PHASE I monitoring for clarification of the diagnosis. In patients whose seizures may respond to surgical treatment, PHASE I monitoring is the first step in the surgical evaluation.
